Investor Visa in Bahrain
Live and work in Bahrain as a business owner. The LMRA investor visa gives company shareholders full residency rights - no salary sponsor required.
What Is an Investor Visa in Bahrain?
The investor visa in Bahrain formally called the Investor Residence Permit is a residency permit issued by the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) to foreign nationals who own shares in a registered Bahrain company.
It is not a work visa. It is not a visit visa. It is a full residency permit that lets you live in Bahrain, manage your business, enter and exit without restrictions, and sponsor your family members.
Bahrain calls it an investor visa because the route to getting it is straightforward: own a company, hold an active Commercial Registration (CR), and apply through the LMRA. There is no minimum investment amount. A BHD 1 share in a registered WLL company qualifies you.

Who Can Apply for an Investor Visa in Bahrain?
Any foreign national who owns shares in a registered Bahrain company can apply. There are no nationality restrictions. There is no minimum capital requirement.
These are the conditions your situation must meet:
- You own shares in a registered Bahrain company (WLL, Bahraini Partnership, or similar)
- Your Commercial Registration (CR) is active
- Your company has a registered office address in Bahrain
- Your passport has at least 6 months of validity remaining
- You have completed the required medical examination (if applying from outside Bahrain)
Important: Single Person Companies (SPC) have been cancelled by MOICT. All existing SPCs are converted to WLL. If you previously held an SPC, you now operate as a WLL and remain eligible for the investor visa.

What About Multiple Shareholders?
Documents Required for the Bahrain Investor Visa
Prepare these documents before starting your LMRA application. Incomplete submissions are the most common reason for delays:
- Passport copy – valid for at least 6 months.
- Commercial Registration (CR) certificate – active status.
- CR Extract – listing your name as shareholder.
- GAMCA Medical Certificate – required if you are applying from outside Bahrain.
- Registered office address proof – tenancy contract or virtual office agreement.
- Passport-size photograph – white background, recent.

File Format Requirements (LMRA EMS Portal)
From our experience: Applications where the CR Extract clearly shows the applicant's name and ownership percentage process significantly faster than those with unclear extracts. Take two minutes to verify this before uploading.

The Businessman Status Benefit Most Investors Do Not Know About
In practice, it means:
- You are not tied to an employer sponsor – you sponsor yourself through your company
- You can change business activities on your CR without re-applying for residency
- Bahrain immigration recognises your status at all ports of entry
- Other GCC countries apply different (often easier) entry procedures to Bahrain Businessman Status holders
This is one of the reasons the investor visa route is significantly more flexible than a standard work permit in Bahrain. Your residency is attached to your company, not a specific job or employer.
Frequently Asked Questions - Investor Visa in Bahrain
How much does an investor visa cost in Bahrain in 2026?
The LMRA investor visa costs BHD 195 for a 1-year permit and BHD 395 for a 2-year permit under the latest 2026 fee schedule. These are government fees. Additional service fees apply if you use a PRO service to manage the application. A monthly levy of BHD 5 also applies to investor residency holders.
What is the difference between an investor visa and a work visa in Bahrain?
A work visa in Bahrain requires an employer to sponsor a company that must hire you and sponsor your residency. An investor visa is self-sponsored through your own company. You are the owner, so you sponsor yourself. This means your residency is not affected if you change business activities or the employment market changes.
Can I get an investor visa in Bahrain without a local Bahraini partner?
Yes. More than 350 business activities in Bahrain allow 100% foreign ownership, and all of them qualify for the investor visa. Only trade and import/export activities require a Bahraini partner (51% local ownership). For most service businesses, IT companies, and consultancies, full foreign ownership is permitted.
How long does it take to get an investor visa in Bahrain?
From the date of submitting a complete application through the LMRA EMS portal, approvals typically take 2 to 4 weeks. The main factors that extend processing time are incomplete documents, an expired GAMCA medical certificate, or a CR extract that does not clearly show the applicant’s ownership percentage.
Can my family get visas through my investor visa?
Yes. Once your investor visa is approved, you can sponsor dependent visas for your spouse and children. The sponsorship is through your company. Each dependent application is filed separately through NPRA and LMRA.
Can an investor visa application be rejected?
Yes, it can. Common rejection reasons include missing documents, an invalid or expired GAMCA medical certificate, a CR that is inactive or under administrative hold, and passport validity of less than 6 months. Applications submitted with all correct documents and an active CR have a high approval rate.
What is the Bahrain Golden Residency Visa and how is it different from the investor visa?
The Golden Residency Visa is a 10-year permit available to high-net-worth investors who purchase property in Bahrain worth at least BHD 130,000 (updated threshold for 2026), or to skilled professionals with five or more years of experience in Bahrain earning at least BHD 2,000 per month. The standard investor visa requires only an active company share; no property purchase is needed. Most foreign business owners start with the investor visa and evaluate the Golden Residency later.
Do I need to stay in Bahrain to keep my investor visa active?
No. The investor visa does not have a minimum stay requirement. You can travel freely and return to Bahrain without a re-entry permit. However, your company’s CR must remain active and your office address must remain registered. If your CR lapses, your investor visa becomes invalid.
Can I get an investor visa without a physical office in Bahrain?
You need a registered business address, but it does not have to be a physical office. A virtual office or serviced office address is accepted by LMRA as long as it is a formally registered address linked to your CR. Many investors start with a virtual office and move to a physical space later.
What happens to my investor visa if I sell my shares or close the company?
If you sell all your shares or your company is dissolved, your investor visa is no longer valid. You would need to either transfer to a work visa (if employed by another company), apply for a new investor visa under a new company, or exit Bahrain. Your visa is tied to your ownership. When ownership ends, the basis for the visa ends with it.
